Thanksgiving Thrills in Chicago:
Have a Blast Doing These 4 Things

For everyone who loves spending time with their families on Thanksgiving, geography doesn’t play a role. Whether you are in NY, Chicago or Europe, the fact you’ve got your favorite people with you will be reason enough to pay Thanks this Thanksgiving.

For everyone who loves spending time with their families on Thanksgiving, geography doesn’t play a role. Whether you are in NY, Chicago or Europe, the fact you’ve got your favorite people with you will be reason enough to pay Thanks this Thanksgiving.

On regular days, we’re all too busy to see our families on regular basis so these few dates in a year when we’re out of the office and elbows-deep in the holiday punch make for the perfect occasion to tell those we love the most just how loved and cherished they are. Since we’re based in the Windy City we thought it’d be fun to lay out a few cool suggestions for you to do with the fam this turkey-obsessed holiday:

Go to Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza

Not that this one didn’t cross your mind already, but we simply had to point it out! We love Christkindlmarket this time of year when everything blings in shiny lights and wonderful energy! For those of you who are only visiting Chicago and aren’t that familiar with the local history, Christkindlmarket is the largest open-air market in the Windy City; it’s inspired by 1545-founded market Nuremberg, Germany. Coming here, you’ll find iconic German items like cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers, and wooden handicrafts, as well as hand-blown ornaments and beer steins. Not very Thanksgiving-y, though but the delicious assortment of authentic German food at Christkindlmarket will blow you away! You’ll get to taste everything from waffles, sausages, potato pancakes, and sauerkraut to the delicious traditional hot spiced wine Glühwein and beer. You’ll love it!

Volunteer in the spirit of giving

We love Chicago because it offers plenty of opportunities to give back to those less fortunate, and one of those opportunities is for Thanksgiving. This year, St. Ignatius Church in Rogers Park has already set its Ignatian Services Food Pantry in action, i.e. works on organizing creating and delivering of Thanksgiving baskets to families on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. There are also drivers needed, so – if you are willing to participate, go for it! This would be an amazing way to help out, feel like you’ve made a difference and teach the young in your family true values. Nothing beats showing them by example why they should be grateful for everything they’ve got! If you want to help and your budget allows it, maybe even rent a Swift Cars Hourly Car Service and a driver as an additional help for delivering all the food and Thanksgiving treats to the families!

Check out the ZooLights

This annual winter tradition is possibly one of our favorite things to do in Chicago around this time of year! Head to the Lincoln Park Zoo with the fam to gasp at the lights and the adorable animals. Try to get there among the first 1,000 because those who do get special glasses to view the lights with! Yaaay!

Enjoy the Thanksgiving Parade

Try replacing the well-known scenario of lazying it out in front of the TV and watching the Parade by actually enjoying it live! Nothing beats the live version of giant inflatable cartoon characters, so try to organize your day with the fam around it – at least for an hour or two of the entire day. This year, the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade will start at the State Street at 8 am and run through 11 am, and treat you to a number of marching bands, floats, and local celebs. Hey, it’s just a few hours of your morning – you’ll have plenty of time to stuff your face with all the deliciousness when you get back home, no worries!

So, what do you think you’ll be doing first for Thanksgiving? Let us know!
